At Just Bee Cuz Honey, we have a love and affection connection for our honey bee colonies and consider ourselves guardians, not keepers, of bees. We ensure their environment is safe from disease and predators, we take only excess honey ensuring they have the space and resources required to maintain a healthy colony, and we follow best practices for pest management and biosecurity. Our apis mellifera colonies have their own unique purpose, and play a critical role in the health of the flora and fauna of the property on which we reside in the traditional territory of the Anishnabek, Huron-Wendat, and Haudensoaunee.
I have always been an avid gardener and fascinated by bees. When I retired and moved with my husband from North Bay, to the Bay Of Quinte Region in 2017, finding a property where I could garden and maintain honey bee colonies was a priority.
I only take excess honey that our bees produce. All of our honey is raw and unpasteurized. Our honey is extracted and bottled by hand. I infuse some of our honey with popular spices and herbs. Our most popular infusion is Ginger/Turmeric. We also have Cinnamon and our delicious smooth Creamed Honey.
In addition to retailing our honey, we offer tours and experiences at our farm. People can visit our farm and learn all about the fascinating species of honey bees between May and September. In the winter months we conduct fused glass workshops. Fused Glass is a wonderful art where glass can be manipulated and allows the creation of 3 dimensional art and beautiful bowls, jewelry and home decor. Glass fusing is a no waste form of art and fits quite well into our sustainable practices at our little farm.
Mindful management of the natural beauty and solitude found here provides a greater understanding of the innumerable benefits of living a simpler life that is filled with fruitful labour and yields a more peaceful spirit, regardless of age or culture.
